“An inconvenience rightly taken becomes an adventure” (Zen saying). This is how I convinced my wife Cecilia (of 39 years) and my three kids that every so often we should experience more inconvenience: Arizona (grad school), Chicago, Puerto Rico (corporate move), Dominican Republic (own business), Mexico, Freemont, Michigan (pop. 2,500; headquarters for Gerber Baby Foods), Miami, Florida Keys, Coastal North Carolina (retired). I’ve been retired for over ten years (golden parachute); pretended to study for a PhD and teach at Florida Atlantic University for a while but gave up frustrated by bureaucracy; didn’t finish my black belt in karate either (knees!) but I am an advanced open water diver and certified kayaker, long time Rotarian. I have traveled around the world establishing baby food businesses China, India, and Middle East; Latin America is my back yard. Dan Coleman and I were in the Peace Corps in Venezuela (back in the 60’s) where I played semi-serious soccer for my town team and had serious failures with my co-ops. I think HFH is one of the few truly effective volunteer organizations (I am on our local board) and Argentina, rightly taken, is a great adventure.
