(Saturday): We will leave the U.S., Canada and Triniday, arriving in in Buenos Aires the next morning.
(Sunday): Except for those of us who arrived earlier in the week, we will be met by a Habitat staffer in a van who will take us to the Hotel Bosch in the San Vincente area of Buenos Aires. After checking in and resting a bit we will have lunch and if there is any interest go to the San Telmo Sunday outdoor market in the afternoon. Dinner will be at a nearby restaurant.
(Monday: At 11:30 AM we will attend an orientation meeting at Habitat for Humanity Argentina’s office in BA, located at: Dardo Rocha 170, Acassuso, Buenos Aires (tel: 4793-4384), not far from our hotel. After a lunch, a van will take us to the El Motivo bus terminal to catch a commercial bus to Santa Fe, about a 6 hour ride away. There we will check into the Hotel Brigadier on Avenue San Luis. A late dinner will follow.
thru 19 (Tuesday-Friday): After breakfast at the hotel, a van will pick us up each morning to take us to the building site. Lunch will be served on the site by a local restaurant. Then the van will return in the afternoon to take us back to our hotel. After a hot shower and a little relaxation, we will go to dinner each evening at a different restaurant in or near to Santa Fe.
(Saturday): A free day. Our tentative plans now are to spend the day visiting the countryside around Santa Fe. We hope to visit an Estancia (ranch) where we will see a working cattle operation, with real Gauchos. The day will end with an asado (grilled meat outdoors) for dinner with plenty of refreshments. We return to our hotel in Santa Fe that evening .
(Sunday): Another off day during which time one can simply relax or perhaps visit the museums (there are several), a soccer match, a church service in spanish, the zoo, or any combination of things.
-25 (Monday-Thursday) These four days will be similar to those of our first week with one exception. On our last day (Thursday), after the work day ends, we will have a going away party with the families we are assisting as well as the Habitat staff and construction crew.
(Friday): We are up bright and early to catch a bus back to Buenos Aires where we check into Hotel Monumental Best Western on Junin Avenue in the heart of Buenos Aires. Early that evening we will stroll over to the Café Tortoni (founded in 1858, it is oldest continually operating cafe in BA) for refreshments and a music presentation in its small theater). Afterwards, we will have a relaxing dinner at a restaurant either in the Madero waterfront complex or downtown where we will reflect on our mission of the past two weeks.
(Saturday): Next morning we will take a three hour city tour of Buenos Aires which will end up with us having lunch at an outdoor café in Ricoleta. The rest of the day is open but a visit to the Recoleta Cemetery or the neighborhood market is a good option as well as a stroll down Florida Avenue. That evening we will take in a milongo which is a dance hall where individuals come to tango. It starts late, around 11 PM, so some of us might not make it.
(Sunday): Day of Departure. But, there is one last thing to do. A short train ride to the nearby town of Tigre where we will board a boat for a tour of the River Platte delta, with lunch on board. Then back to pick up our bags in the hotel's storage room. A van will take those of us leaving that evening to the airport.
So, adios Argentina. |
