I live with my wife, Victoria, one hour south of the City of Vancouver, on Canada’s Pacific Coast. We have two adult children; our son is teaching high school locally, and our daughter, Eileen, is completing graduate studies at university. Victoria is a Kindergarten teacher and will be giving her children news about our trip while we are in Argentina. I am a regional manager with the Government of British Columbia and work for a department that provides direction on the use of public land and natural resources. We carry out projects to resolve conflicts between environmental conservation, forestry, tourism, mining, and other economic activities. In 2003, Canada was awarded the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and we are currently assisting with the development of some of the venues. This will be my fifth Global Village trip to Latin America and I can’t wait to carry some “bloques” again. I went on my first trip in 2002 to Nicaragua and I was very impressed with Habitat’s ‘grassroots delivery model’. But it is the people, and the sense of being part of the larger human family, that draws me back each year. Every year there is a special moment or insight that feeds my soul between trips, and I suspect this trip will be no different. I look forward to meeting everyone in Buenos Aires.
